How it all started

In December 2020, the biggest ‘solidarity and digital bingo game’ ever organised was streamed live. The initiative, which was joined by more than 200 participants, arose from the desire to realise an event that was able to:

  • Unite Italians living abroad who could not reunite with their loved ones during the holidays.
  • Raise funds to support the “SpesaSospesa” solidarity initiative, a project by Comitato Lab00 Onlus, which provides food assistance to families in need. Each winning participant could choose where in Italy their donation would be directed.

The solution

MammaPack and Garofalo, with the technical support of the Synesthesia Events team, organized the largest virtual bingo game ever held for Italians abroad. Thanks to a partnership with SpesaSospesa.org, a project conceived and promoted by Comitato Lab00 Onlus, the entire prize pool was donated to charity. It was a major initiative that was fully digital and solidarity-based, managed entirely remotely.

The MammaPack and Garofalo bingo for SpesaSospesa took place entirely virtually, through a live stream shared on the social media channels of the organizing companies. With the support of Synesthesia Events, the event’s remote production utilized five cameras and high-quality mobile devices (without requiring a professional crew).

Each participant received their bingo card and the link to join the videoconference via email. Additionally, participants were given the opportunity to join the live broadcast. The game was run using dedicated software for managing the bingo process, prizes, and winners.
The event was hosted by actors Serena Rossi and Davide Devenuto. Additional contributors during the bingo included Flavio Nappi and Romolo Ganzerli, co-founders of MammaPack; Marilena Esposito, Digital Marketing Manager at Garofalo; and Emidio Mansi, Commercial Director for Italy and Global Marketing Director at Garofalo.

Results

The “solidarity and digital bingo” organized by MammaPack for SpesaSospesa was an innovative, engaging, and highly relevant idea, allowing participants to “come together” despite the distances and restrictions imposed by the pandemic. It provided an opportunity to spend time in good company, have fun, and simultaneously support a significant solidarity initiative.

The technical solution adopted enabled the event to achieve the remarkable milestone of one million participants connected via live streaming across six Facebook pages, with the option to interact live through audio and video.
